Lea - Medical Hold

Lea was brought into the shelter by a good Samaritan as a stray. She was extremely thin (only 39 pounds) and limping but her sweet smile let us know she was a resilient, happy girl. Although a microchip was detected, her owner never came for her. On closer medical evaluation, we learned she limped because she is missing the entire paw on one rear leg and missing toes on the other one. We don’t know if she was born this way or has an old injury, so we are going to have some tests done to figure out if she’s in pain and what she needs. Lea came across as super sweet when we met her, and her sweetness has proven to be at her core; she loves every human and dog she meets – especially her canine foster sibling.

Doc

Well, it turns out we named this boy well. He has a doctorate in ball:  ball fetching, ball squeaking, ball hide and go seek. Doc came to us from a local shelter when his owner didn’t claim him.  The shelter gave him the age of 6 years, but his enthusiasm for playing ball is more like that of a younger dog. He weighs 60 pounds, is neutered/chipped/vaccinated and is doing really well in his foster home. He is not a barker, knows how to chill, is house trained, does well with visitors and is proving to have a super sweet personality. The outside world has many distractions and his foster is helping him learn to walk nicely on leash. If you’re looking for a really nice dog with a great temperament, give some thought to this handsome guy. He is going to make some lucky family a wonderful companion.

Leo

What a happy little love bug! Leo, age 2, is a pocket sized golden retriever mix at 38-40 lbs.  He is currently living with his doggie-saavy foster momma and young GR canine sis.  He’s completely house trained with no accidents at all! Leo has found the joy of playing with sprinklers and garden hoses so he may be a good pool/beach/lake buddy. He is food (CHEESE!) and toy motivated.  He walks well on leash although he can get excited to say “hey” to squirrels, cats and other doggos.  He is easily redirected and is working on being more Zen. Such a smart boy! Most importantly, he is a huge snuggler and will sometimes flip upside down if there is ample room (and he doesn’t need much). His new family will be able to provide good exercise, continue his training and spoil him immensely. This dog will be someone’s best friend for sure. Are you the lucky one?

Lady Guinevere

Lady Guinevere may not be royalty but she has a charm that will win you over. She has a smile that lights up a room and wears her ear tuffs like a crown. This sweet Golden Retriever mix is about 3 1/2 years old and could stand to lose a few pounds (hey it happens). We think she is going to be a marvelous companion dog. She is dog friendly, but cats are unknown. She’s new to us and settling into her foster home, but if ear tufts are your jam this gal might be the one for you.

Clifford

Clifford is a sleek, sweet sensational pup who will melt your heart with his desire to please. Three years old and past all the puppy stuff, his fosters say one of his best attributes is how well he listens and does as you ask. He loves to play fetch, and will do so for as long as you want, but once it’s time to put the ball away he accepts that and won’t bug you for more. He loves to wander and explore new smells in the backyard, but he ALWAYS comes when called! He waits patiently when it’s mealtime and doesn’t jump up or bark, just sits until you give him the cue that it’s ok to chow down. He is very food motivated, making it easy to do training or perhaps to teach tricks. Clifford weighs 50 pounds and has a deep, impressive bark that he uses when strangers come to the door, but he quiets down when you assure him that the visitor is welcome. We know that Clifford’s mother is a Lab mix, but we don’t know what breed his father is, just that he must be intelligent because Clifford is one smart guy. He gets along with his canine foster sibling who is a small female mix, and pays attention when the princess gives direction and treats her kindly. While Clifford lived with toddlers, a dog and a cat previously, he gets too excited by the cat in his foster home so we can’t honestly say how he feels about felines in general. His fosters are still working on his leash skills as he pulls on walks and can get distracted by other dogs, but his foster dad just says, “Come on buddy, let’s go!” and Clifford gets the message. He is fascinated by dogs and other animals on TV, goes right up to the screen to check them out, then cracks everybody up by trying to look behind the TV when the critters are no longer on-screen. Clifford is definitely a velcro type homebody who loves to snuggle on the couch or will lay down on the floor resting his head on your feet. Everybody who meets him says, “He’s a really nice dog!” and we couldn’t agree more. If this sounds like the kind of dog you’re looking for, please fill out an application and we’ll be in touch soon.

Nate - Adopted

Who can resist those cute freckles and ears?  Nate is about 2 years old and has the happy energy you would expect from a young Lab mix. He loves to play fetch, has shown promise when introduced to K9 scent work, is a whiz at doggie food puzzles, loves his toys and can also be chill and cuddle on the couch.  He is crate trained, fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and weighs in at a trim 51 pounds. Enthusiastic and ready to go for a walk anytime (see the video where a 10 year old is walking him), Nate also loves to play with other friendly dogs and could be a best friend to a dog already in the home.  Smart and athletic, patient and well mannered at outdoor cafes, he would be a great companion for people who want to include him in their daily activities.  Nate is ready to find his forever family, so head on over to the adoption page and fill out an application!

Sloan - Adoption Pending

Meet Sloan! While her past has been riddled with trauma (she experienced a home invasion resulting in the death of two canine companions, and was also attacked by her kennel mate while at the shelter), Sloan shows incredible forgiveness and invites/requests that you show her plenty of love! Despite all she has endured, she has just the sweetest, most tender personality (she definitely knows how to get you with “the eyes”).
At the perfect age of 7-9, Sloan has plenty of pep for long walks and fun outings, and certainly enjoys her down time (aka snoozing for most of the day, as dogs do).
Sloan gets along fantastically with her foster bro, but appreciates her space with dogs while on walks. Proper introductions are a must.
Sloan has some understandable anxiety due to her past, so a patient and gentle home is important for her to experience safety and security. If you can give your heart to Sloan, she will undoubtedly give you hers.

Wyatt

Wyatt lives up to his name; Brave and Courageous
Rescued from an area shelter, Wyatt had come in as a stray. They suspected that he had been attacked because of the multiple injuries and lacerations on him. He also had hundreds of foxtails embedded in his fur that took days and finally a medicated bath to clear out. When we saw the photos sent out by the shelter, we knew that we had to help. Through it all, Wyatt has been sweet and very tolerant of all the handling he needed, even by strangers.
This handsome boy is 1 years old and was in desperate need of some extra TLC and medical care.  We are happy to report that he is healthy now. He is meeting lots of new friends, human and dog, and seeks out affection and play. He loves toys, which he likes to carry, toss and de-stuff himself. He is comfortable on the soft couch and dog bed, but he also likes hanging out in the backyard. Wyatt is gaining the confidence, training and experience a youngster needs. He is housetrained, neutered and up to date on all his vaccinations. He is not going to be the dog to go on long walks or hikes, but he will enjoy playtime with other dogs. He can adjust his playstyle, but he really likes playing with other rough and tumble dogs. If you are looking for a very sweet, affectionate boy who is looking to love and be loved, then Wyatt is your guy.

Phoenix - Adoption Pending

Phoenix is our “second chance at life and rising from the ashes” puppy mill dog from Ohio.
Phoenix arrived very shut down and afraid of everything because he had no life experience beyond a cage. During the time he has been with us, we’ve seen him slowly open up and become more trusting. His two favorite activities are fetching and receiving belly rubs. Living with him is like having a toddler who never puts his toys away – his foster family’s living room is always littered with at least 15 dog toys. The minute the dog in his foster family (her name is Molly) picks up a toy, Phoenix becomes obsessed with getting it; thankfully Molly doesn’t mind when he takes a toy from her. Understandably, Phoenix has a bit of FOMO (fear of missing out) and if Molly is getting attention he asks to join in on the love.
He is shy and timid and needs an adopter who already has a dog to mentor him because he instinctively likes other dogs and tends to mimic their behavior. His adopters also need to be dedicated to letting Phoenix set the pace as he learns how to be a dog. So far, Phoenix has yet to go on a walk around the neighborhood. He also gets spooked by new stuff like wind and backpacks. With time we have seen him become comfortable with “normal” house activities/sounds such as a beeping microwave, closing cabinets, pulling out a chair, unloading a dishwasher, and sneezing so we know eventually wind and backpacks will no longer scare him.  Phoenix still hasn’t ventured into a bedroom or bathroom in his foster home – he’ll look inside those rooms, but isn’t comfortable enough to explore them. He has zero interest in the front yard, but he does make use of the back yard for his bathroom breaks. Phoenix’s world was so sheltered for his first two years that we’re surprised and excited about the progress he’s made so far. He gets braver every day and he is starting to become curious about things he sees and smells. This is huge considering he acted more like a bump on a log than a dog when he first arrived.
Phoenix is a very special boy, who has a lot of potential and a lot of love to give. He has come a long way from his cage, but he still has a long way to go. He needs someone who will help him be brave, and who will celebrate every tiny step he takes. He needs someone who will love him unconditionally, and who will never give up on him. If you are that someone and you have another dog, Phoenix will reward you with a lifetime of incredible trust and loyalty. He will be your faithful companion, your best friend, and your biggest fan. Phoenix is waiting for you. Will you be his hero?

Emma - Adoption Pending

Emma is beautiful, affectionate and perfect!
Emma is an amazing dog with a resilient spirit. She has adapted well in her foster home and she has been the absolute sweetest and easiest dog from the get-go.  She moved right in with three other dogs and made herself at home on the couch, on the bed and always with her foster people.  She is house trained and knows some basic commands.  She has a favorite toy that she has figured out to keep with her at all times because her foster brother has been taking her toys and destroying them. So she carries it from room to room and if it is not in her mouth, she lays on it!   Emma enjoys going on walks and doesn’t even mind when her car rides end up at the vet, and she has been to the Vet many times in order to diagnose and treat some health challenges. Emma is the perfect patient and has been given the “All Clear” but It’s important for Emma‘s health that she receives regular check-ups to monitor for any new growths. In the meantime, it’s heartwarming to know that her life is filled with love, happiness, and fun.
